Gold Sentiment Explained: How to Read the Prop Insider Radar
The Prop Insider Gold Sentiment Radar publishes a daily contrarian view on gold — a signal built from real prop-firm and funded-account positioning, not from the crowd it’s reading.
01What is the Gold Sentiment Radar?
The Prop Insider Gold Sentiment Radar publishes a daily contrarian view on gold.
The underlying signal is derived from aggregated and anonymised trading behaviour across selected prop firms and funded-account brands. This includes traders attempting to pass funded-account challenges and traders already managing funded accounts.
The Radar does not simply report what these traders are doing. It publishes a view that leans against heavily one-sided positioning.
02Why use a contrarian signal?
When a large number of traders are positioned in the same direction, that trade can become crowded and more exposed to a reversal. The Radar highlights where funded-account positioning may be becoming one-sided and shows the contrarian view derived from that behaviour.
It can help you:
- Compare the contrarian signal with your own analysis.
- Identify when funded-account traders may be crowded on one side of gold.
- Consider the risk of a reversal in prevailing positioning.
- Add another source of context to your trading decisions.
03What the Radar is based on
The primary input is aggregated and anonymised gold-trading data relating to two groups of traders:
Traders attempting to pass funded-account challenges.
Traders already trading funded accounts.
This data is supplied by selected prop-firm and funded-account partners. The underlying signal is derived from the behaviour and positioning visible within this specific group of traders.
Market information such as gold price action, volatility, economic events and relevant news may also be included to provide context around the daily signal.
04What the Radar does not measure
The Radar does not measure sentiment across the entire global gold market. It does not represent the positioning of all retail traders, banks, hedge funds, asset managers, futures traders or institutional investors.
It reflects only the prop-firm and funded-account trading behaviour available through selected industry data sources, together with the contrarian signal derived from that behaviour.
What it reads
Prop-firm and funded-account gold positioning, sourced from selected industry partners.
What it does not read
Retail traders at large, banks, hedge funds, asset managers, futures traders and institutional investors.
05How to read the Radar
A new Gold Sentiment Radar is published for each trading day. Each report has one of three ratings:
The contrarian signal points towards potential strength in gold.
The contrarian signal points towards potential weakness in gold.
No sufficiently clear bullish or bearish contrarian signal was available for that trading day.
Prop Insider also publishes a weekly report explaining what appears to be influencing gold, important economic events taking place that week, and risks that could have affected the signal.

07How to use the Radar
Use the Radar as one additional source of information alongside your own technical analysis, trading strategy, risk-management rules and understanding of current market conditions. It should not be used as a standalone instruction to buy or sell gold.
08Data and commercial disclosure
The prop-firm and funded-account trading data underlying the Radar is supplied by selected industry partners. The data is aggregated and anonymised, and Prop Insider does not publish individual trader or firm positions.
Prop Insider may receive affiliate commissions or commercial support from prop firms, funded-account brands and other trading-industry partners.
Each day’s rating is produced by applying the Radar’s contrarian methodology to the underlying positioning data. It is not chosen to promote a featured prop firm or affiliate offer. Any material sponsorship directly connected to a report will be disclosed.
