Interactive Brokers Makes IBKR Desktop Available on Linux

Interactive Brokers has made its IBKR Desktop platform available on Linux, expanding operating system support for its desktop trading environment.

According to the company, the Linux version offers full feature parity with the Windows and macOS releases. Users can access the same trading tools, order management features, and account functionality regardless of operating system.

The latest build of IBKR Desktop also includes interface updates. These changes cover navigation within the Options tab, quicker watchlist actions, and general usability adjustments. Users can review updates and release notes through the built-in “What’s New” section, which is accessible from the Support Center icon within the platform.

Interactive Brokers stated that the Linux release responds to demand from traders operating in Linux-based environments, which are commonly used in professional and institutional trading setups.

Interactive Brokers Adds Protective Collar Strategy to TWS

In a separate platform update, Interactive Brokers has added the Protective Collar options strategy to the Strategy Builder within the Option Chain of its Trader Workstation (TWS) platform.

The Protective Collar strategy allows traders to combine an existing position with options trades designed to limit downside exposure while capping upside potential. Users can construct the strategy directly within the Option Chain by selecting the relevant option legs.

Once configured, the order ticket populates automatically below the Option Chain interface, allowing further adjustments before submission. An additional order preview appears prior to execution.

The functionality is available within the existing TWS workflow and does not require separate tools or external configuration. The update applies specifically to options trading within the platform.

Newly available benchmarks include the All Share Index, which reflects a broad portion of market capitalization on the JSE’s Main Board, and the Financial 15 Index, which tracks major listed financial companies.

TradingView users can view delayed quotes for the integrated symbols without a subscription. Real-time data access requires an active market data subscription. To locate the exchange’s symbols, users can search using the “JSE:” prefix within the platform’s symbol search tool.

The update expands TradingView’s coverage of emerging market equities and indices.
