CME Group has reported record activity in its U.S. Treasury futures and options, underscoring the scale of trading in one of the world’s most closely watched markets. On Nov. 20, open interest reached 35,120,066 contracts, the highest level ever recorded. A day later, interest rate futures and options saw 44,839,732 contracts traded, marking the second‑largest daily volume in the company’s history.
The figures come as investors weigh the outlook for economic growth and the pace of Federal Reserve easing. Agha Mirza, CME Group’s global head of rates and OTC products, said the surge in activity reflects how traders are using the firm’s markets to manage risk across the yield curve.
CME Group offers futures and options tied to U.S. Treasuries, SOFR, Fed Funds and other benchmarks. Its Treasury and SOFR contracts trade alongside BrokerTec cash securities on the CME Globex platform.
Institutional and Retail Participation Driving Growth
Additionally, CME Group has announced a new milestone in its cryptocurrency derivatives market. On Nov. 21, trading in its crypto futures and options reached an all‑time daily record of 794,903 contracts, surpassing the previous high of 728,475 contracts set in August 2025.
Commenting on the development, Giovanni Vicioso, Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products at CME Group, noted that both institutional investors and retail participants are driving activity across the product suite.
